How To Prepare A Wedding Cake
Preparing a memorable wedding cake can be an arduous, stressful, & high cost process if you don't know how to prepare it. Don't spend too much more on your wedding cake. There are some things to be aware of when purchasing a wedding cake:
The Wedding Theme
A professional baker will discuss with you first about your wedding theme to make sure that his work match to your wedding theme. May be he will ask many things that related to your wedding theme, from color nuance, bouquet, decoration, till your wedding dress.
Wedding Budget
If you plan the wedding on a limited budget you should tell your baker honestly on how much your budget for a wedding cake. An experienced baker can change small thing to be special thing using accessories that are suitable for you wedding theme.
See Their Portfolio
When considering the cake design, you have to see their portfolio. Make sure their portfolio has an aesthetic character that you want. Don't get fixated with their big name. Sometimes big name can cause low in customer satisfaction. Intuitively they can think that your order is not worth, and the result may be unsuitable for you.
Taste the Cake
First Choose the flavor suitable for you & your guests. Taste cake first before you buy it. If there is any something that not suitable for you, you can discuss it with the baker. Consider on consistency in taste. Too much variation of taste will influence the entire of cake even wedding atmosphere. So, make sure that the taste is a part of & strengthening the whole wedding theme. You would rather see another cake designer if they don't let you taste cake.
Fresh Flowers or Gum Paste Flowers
If you want to put fresh flowers on the cake, assure that the flowers are free from pesticide. Gum paste flowers that made with dough of gum paste commonly are more expensive than real flowers. Be sides shape has to resemble with the original's shape, the dough composed of a lot of materials such as glycerin, gum Arabic, and icing sugar.
Fondant or Butter Cream
Cake Fondant (candy) shape may be look interesting, especially with attractive colors. But may be it is not as nice as its appearance. Whereas butter cream, hmmm yummy, but can melt easily. If it is the problem, just compromise. You can put butter cream layer under the fondant.
Order & Shipping
Order the cake early, because it need effort & enough time to design a memorable & gorgeous wedding cake. A cake designer needs enough time because they won't disappoint you. Remember, some people come to your cake designer, not only you. Others couples maybe have ordered their wedding cake before your order. You should order your cake at least 3-6 months before your wedding day for best result. Order early but ship as soon as possible. If you buy a firm baked cake like unfrosted cake, it's easy to ship. But, iIf you buy a perishable cake such as chocolate, soft meats, & cheesecake, it will require refrigeration on shipping. Assure that the car which ship your cake has full air conditioning to prevent the cake from melted away on the way. And assure that you have told your cake designer/baker about your wedding schedule & the address completely.
